National Organization of Parents of Blind Children

The National Organization of Parents of Blind Children (NOPBC) consists of parents, teachers, and others interested in the development and education of blind children. We offer vital support, information, advocacy, and training as we help parents instill independence in a child who happens to be blind.

NOPBC sponsors seminars and workshops for parents and teachers of blind children, the Braille Readers Are Leaders contest, and the Slate-Mates program which connects blind children who want to correspond with other blind children in braille. We produce Future Reflections, a magazine for parents and educators of blind children, and distribute literature and videos about blindness. NOPBC sponsors nationwide networks on homeschooling, adoption, deaf-blindness, and blind children with additional disabilities. We educate legislators about the needs of blind children and provide assistance to parents and blind children whose rights have been denied.

As a division of the National Federation of the Blind, NOPBC offers the collective knowledge, expertise, and resources of the oldest, largest, most active and influential national organization of blind people in the country.
